SEO Video Blog - How does SEO work? #37
Script
Welcome to this weeks SEO video blog, we are going back to basics and we are going to try and answer ‘how does SEO‘ work?
All search engines are aiming towards the same goal, providing the end user the best possible search results. We also know that PPC is how the search engines generate a large propotion of their profit, but because PPC’s are controlled by webmasters it doesn’t always provide an accurate result.
So this is where organic listings and SEO come in.
You can see in the image shown, the difference between PPC and organic results. The organic search positions are all controlled by an algorithm which takes into consideration a range of variables.
The first part of SEO is to ensure your website correctly reflects your chosen keywords and that the context corresponds with the users query.
Correct information is important, but equally is site architecture, usability and load time. All these features help both search engine spiders and users easily navigate throughout the site.
So what if you have a 100 or a 1000’s websites with similar internal structure and context, what then governs the organic listings and how can you get a site from page 10 to page 1?
This is where the external side of SEO becomes a factor, you have all seen sites with page ranks, as mentioned in last weeks video blog, Page Rank is a link analysis algorithm that takes into consideration inbound and outbound links.
Improving a website’s listing can be achieved by link building. The golden rule with link building is quality over quantity. Sourcing 50,000 backlinks from one website that has no authority might not be as effective as a carefully selecting a couple of high quality backlinks from authoritative sites.
So related content and quality backlinks are the basics behind SEO. SEO is a process that can be enhanced when the client and SEO consultant work together effectivley.
