How To Write Effectively For SEO

SEO is a practice that is applied both internally and externally to a website, to encourage it to perform in search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo. Just some of the techniques used include blogging, directory submissions, article marketing, press release writing and distribution.

As 2009 draws to a close, it is important that SEO Consultants consider their strategies for internet marketing, to ensure that they are in best shape for getting their websites to the top spots in the search engines. Below are our top tips for writing content for SEO purposes;

Planning – Always plan your writing, this will give you a focus to ensure that the article or blog post is methodical, getting to the point quickly and easily. I would recommend putting together bullet points that you can follow as you are writing, it should also make the writing process much quicker.

Contact The Client – Many writers find themselves writing copy about a subject that they have no prior knowledge of. Nothing puts a reader off more, than knowing more about a topic than the authority that is meant to be educating them. It is essential that you discuss the subject with your client to assure that all facts are correct and the copy reads well.

Relevant – Think about what is current in the news; something relevant to the industry at the time of writing will hold much more substance and be considered more highly by both readers and search engines.

Titles – The title is one of the most important elements of any article, press release or blog post. Ultimately, this helps the reader to decide whether or not they are going to read on. The title should be kept concise with short snappy phrases. It should sum up the contents of the copy, whilst being easy to read and digest.

Keywords – These should be included in both the main body of the article and the title; if used as anchored text they can be detected by search engines and they can encourage traffic to a website. The main purpose of article marketing is for other internet users to re-use the content. If the article includes anchored text this could greatly increase the number of back-links to your website.

Target Audience – Understanding exactly who you are writing for will be highly beneficial throughout the writing process, you will be able to craft the copy and utilise words that are suitable for a particular audience.

If you write online copy on a daily basis it is really easy to get complacent, however following these simple steps will help to ensure that your writing works for SEO and for the reader.

Hi and welcome to this weeks SEO Video Blog, last week Google released a real time search function into their search results page.

We thought that we would have look into the real time search, It uses a simple scroll bar to display the information under the news section of a search result.

The real time results update automatically and it works by aggregating tweets, Yahoo answers, recent news articles from authoritative sites, web pages, Facebook and Myspace.

All the real time results are related to your search query, Google extracts your keywords and related keywords from the information within the result shown.

In fact Microsoft’s search engine Bing has been linking its search with social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook since earlier this year, Which seemed to put them one step ahead of Google.

Google however, have since striked a deal with Twitter and Facebook moving their real time search results a big step in the right direction and without much effort have re-stamped their authority as the number 1 search engine.

Google released a statement saying that it will use over a billion web pages as well as social media sites, to keep their real time news up to date.
Lets have a quick look at Googles real time search in action.

Reading Leads To Better SEO And Online Marketing

We’ve always been told that the best way to improve our copy is to read, read, read. Whether you pick up the paper with your morning coffee, read your novel on the train to work or just read articles online for more information via your favourite blog, you are actually taking an advanced step to improving your copywriting.

But what has this got to do with SEO?

The advances in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) are never ending, and as we are aware, keeping up with trends is what keeps you afloat online. But a successful way to do this as well as exposing your business a head of all the competition is with killer content that appeals to your audience.

Of course, we learn about different SEO techniques and new advances by one method; reading. And how do others find out information about what they are passionate in; by reading. Seeing a trend here?

With the vast amount of content that is available online, people do not see this as ‘proper information’. Books aren’t going to fade out and are still seen to have more authority, but the Internet is jam packed with information that cries out for people to find it.

SEO contains many elements and it’s often said that ‘Content is King’. So ensure that you are putting out information that attracts your audience. Marketing copy isn’t spam. It’s informative and relevant content that is allowing people to know more about your business.

Look at the copy you often read, it has attracted your attention so it’s worthwhile noting why. Would writing like this help to attract more interest to your business, you website or your articles? Without readers, your copy is pointless.

So, before you reach for the pen or tap aimlessly on the keyboard, make sure your work is written to be read.
